We are a design practice based in Berlin and London, founded by Michele Gauler and Eyal Burstein.
Our practice takes on large, complex issues and translates them into easily understood objects or services. We love mixing materials and concepts that seem incompatible, like death and data or putting neuroscience into an ordinary, mass-produced chair. This outlook comes from a deep interest in how humans adopt technologies in their everyday lives. While Beta Tank's objects may seem fantastic or magical they are always based on available technologies and address timeless human behaviours and needs.
Michele Gauler – My background is in Psychology and Human-Computer Interaction and I used to work for IBM as a user experience team lead before I came to London for my MA in Design Interaction at the Royal College of Art. I like to consider how technologies relate to the individual and their very personal experiences.
Eyal Burstein – I studied graphic design at the London College of Printing, I then studied Interaction Design at the Royal College of Art. I am interested in technology especially at the point where technology disappears and becomes ubiquitous. At this point economically and socially the technology can move from its original packaging and piggy back on other technologies.
